Abstract: This book summarizes the scholarly interests to which Professor Werner W. Wittmann has been devoted. It serves as a tribute to Professor Wittmann by providing an opportunity for his friends and colleagues to conduct and publish research that is substantially related to Professor Wittman's work . In view of Prof. Wittmann's vita and his comprehensive contributions to advance psychology in various areas, it didn't take us long to find a title for this edited book. We chose the title 'Multivariate Research Strategies' because it most appropriately and comprehensively reflects the nucleus of Prof. Wittmann's work. Assuming that the results from multivariate studies are generally affected by strategic choices, we hope that the present compilation of chapters on multivariate strategies will aid researchers and practitioners to further stimulate, expand, and improve their studies. The book is organized into three sections. In section A, "Symmetry Principles and Aggregation", the reader will find chapters related to Brunswik Symmetry and to the related problem of different levels of generality (Ajzen; Ackerman & Kanfer; Hattrup; Barrett). In section B, "New Developments in Assessment and Multivariate Analysis", primarily the statistical aspects of multivariate research will be addressed (Oberauer, Wilhelm & Schmiedek; Walach & Kohls; Bengel & Wirtz; Völkle; Matt). Section C, "Multivariate Evaluation Research," provides applications of multivariate research strategies to evaluation research (Fahrenberg; Schmidt & Nübling; Süß, Oberauer & Gelbert; Schulze & Holling; Lindstam). We would like to express our sincere thanks to all contributors for their most interesting chapters. Last, but not least, our sincere thanks go to Professor Wittmann for making our collaborations with him always a most valuable and pleasant experience.
